Styling Idea #423 Long Centre Pillow

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Being obssessed with bedrooms as I am I am constantly seeking new styleS for pillows and cushions. I’m loving the long skinny centre pillow. Make it different to everything else on the bed so it stands on it’s own. Or work it back to the prints behind…it’s easy and very effective.

Styling Idea # 420 Cane Settee

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Somedays you are up and others you are stuck. It kinda feels like a physical stickiness – a heaviness that you can only just keep moving. In the land of business and launching a dream it is on these days that you MUST keep swimming.

Yesterday was a stuck day but I put on my fancy pants, my favourite lipgloss, a new harid-do and went out and got myself a job. Keep on moving. Keep on dancing. And, please keep on designing your space and creating your home…..it will always make you smile.

Styling Idea # 416 Midnight Blue

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I know we live in a black and white obsessed world. It always works and it will always work (nice to know there are some stables in the land of design) however I am currently dreaming about deep midnight blue. You see, it was recently hard rubbish week around Melbourne (meaning everything you want to throw out that is larger than your council bins get placed on the foot path). The free for all mentality was hilarious – people collecting tables, chairs, wood, boxes whatever. Everything I saw needed some love and I kept wanting to repaint old furniture a deep lacquered navy. Softer than black, more chic than brights, timeless and stunning.

My tips are keep it really dark, off set with white, wood, mustard, oranges or lilac. If you are planning on painting furniture consider a lacquer to give the colour another dimension- reflection!

Styling Idea # 413 Cabin Porn

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Somewhere around 7:30am this morning I sat down to write this post. In between keeping the fire going, thinking I had lost my flat mates cat (worst feeling ever! When kittens learn to climb you are in trouble), being inspired by a million furniture designers, appraising a girlfriends possible Danish eBay table (not Danish, not teak I say) hearing from a possible supplier in Scotland and reading Wallpaper I am now trying to get this out. You see….we had a public holiday in Australia yesterday so somehow this is a Thursday that feels like a Sunday. It is really hard to get your mind into gear. This time yesterday I was about to be treated to a gourmet lunch…my girlfriend cooked up 4 ducks for lunch. yum!

So, there are lots of things going on in camp FURNNISH at the moment (including a name change). However I will wait a bit longer to reveal the source of my inspiration, excitement, anticipation and perspiration!

In the mean time I am sure you need a pretty pic to get you through the afternoon. I found this site awe inspiring this morning! http://freecabinporn.com/ I am assuming the interior would be all a bit themed and stone-like but who cares when you can look at a view like this?

Styling Idea # 412 Angus and Celeste

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I visited the uber popular and very busy Finders Keepers markets on the weekend. Without offending my beautiful Melbourne town I sometimes tire of the popularity that the craft movement has in this town, 10 years ago it felt fresh now it feels repetitive. I must say that the beautiful hanging gardens from Angus and Celeste still made me smile. It looks fresh and beautiful. Check out their other beautiful products on their website too!

Styling Idea # 411 Mauve and Neutrals

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I am increasingly looking for new colours to inspire me in interiors. Soft pink, Hermes Orange and Mauve are fast joining my regular favorites.

I love the way this soft mauve pops against the stark black and white…what do you think?

Or the soft tone against the warmer neutral palette- creams and bronze.  Do you have a preference?

Styling Idea # 410 Painted Door Trim

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

No one can accuse me of not providing enough ways to get colour into your space. I have suggested painting the window frames, the door frames, the skirting boards and almost everything else! However, this is a new one. Finding colour on the edge of the door….what a surprise.

Kids rooms especially would look wonderful with a bright colour like this. Be bold…you can always paint over it. I love the use of a bright colour in a neutral space….think neon lemon with linens, bright blues with crisp white, orange with moody grey or mauve magenta with black and white.

Styling Idea # 409 A Touch of Orange

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Ever since I bought my new handbag in this awesome Hermes orange hue I have been looking for this colour in interiors. It’s a rust based orange that goes so well with everything! White, blue, green, pinks, woods, prints, gold and more. I think this is the start of a new obsession.

Have a great weekend everyone..

Styling Idea #400 Rustic and Modern

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I am currently running around Melbourne like a courier delivery man (only I wish I had the sticker that lets you park anywhere!). I am seriously visiting no less than 10 stores a day at the moment on average and often many more. That makes for a lot of visual stimulation and a lot of IDEA generation. I think I come home at the end of the day and craving a sleep mask just to shut out the colours and ideas that are dancing in my head. Wouldn’t work however……feeling pretty inspired.

What am I loving at the moment? Houndstooth, bed benches, ever green, industrial (still but in small doses), natural wood, orange prints, oversized photography and unrestored furniture.

I love the look of unrestored pieces in a modern setting. Don’t discount it as junk or need of an overhaul just let the passing of time find a home in your space. Keep it modern and clean around the edges. Add a big photograph for love.

I found this image on the yummy blog 79 Ideas!
