Styling Idea # 154 More Mirrored Furniture

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I know, I have already done a post about mirrored furniture. And if I was being technical this idea might have to be #153.5 but hey, sometimes your heart leaps out of your chest at the site of a piece of furniture and you think it is definitely worth sharing with the world. For those who have seen this- well done on being savvy online consumers, for those of you who have not- happiness is here.

Have you ever seen mirrored velvet chairs!

Styling Idea # 153 – Which Shade Red?

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Red is hard. If you get it wrong you will find it difficult to work why it didn’t work.

If you get it right you will find it hard to leave that room because you will be so in love!!!!

  • If you can take your computer to a paint store and get the resolution right on screen I highly suggest painting anything you see this colour (including the town)!
  • It’s not pink, or orange, or brown or rusty. It’s not too blue and it’s not MAROON! Damn it is hot
  • Always wear a sophisticated palette of neutrals, linen and light denim for maximum impact.
  • Other things that red loves- gold, brass, large floral prints, stripes and lamps.
  • Finally, the picture is not sitting on floor for no reason- this style suits ‘nonchalant/Parisian/ I forget to hang the Monet’ approach to artwork- leave it on the floor!

Styling Idea # 152 Asymmetrical Books

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I know that we are not even at the start of April but it feels like I need to get ready. I will be away every weekend for the next 5 so I better be super organised! Which is terrible for dating life, wallet and liver but excellent news on all other fronts!

This panic for organisation has me tidying and compartmentalising the things in my life!

Maybe I could try a little style layout like this…

Black White and Yellow

  • Remember sometimes the space between ‘stuff’ is as important as the stuff. Think about music- the space a musician gives a note is as important as finding the note.
  • I love the mirror reflecting back the pyramid layout!
  • Keep it tidy! This is not a clutter place but a put down place!

Styling Idea # 151 Wall Lights Over Bench

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I spent the rainy Sunday here in Sydney in a little pub with wine and a Beef and Guiness pie. Pubs always do a great job of mini benches for eating- but I love this idea of a hanging wall lights over the space. Smart. Simple. Small.

Styling Idea #149 Purple Velvet

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I woke up this morning to the news that Elizabeth Taylor died. How sad to think everyone grows old- not even beauty can live on forever. Her National Velvet role and violet eyes are the perfect inspiration for this post.

Styling Idea # 147 Folk Patterns

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Folk patterns don’t get much look in in interiors- with Moroccan, English Rose or retro prints all getting the most love these days. I think we should re-think our ethnic patterns and layer for the maximum effect with some Turkish Delight.

  • This does not have to as tricky as it looks – you can grab from current trends and make it your own. (I know the top picture is ghalsty- I am talking about the idea here- the bedspread on its own or the wall hangings alone would be gorgeous! No?
  • Look for patchwork rugs and bed spreads, hand made cushions with tapestry, small foot stools (get a cluster) that you can cover with prints or rugs that you can use as wall hangings.
  • I love the metal tray tables that are around at the moment (see below for similar) and the small Turkish pattern glasses and wine glasses- these with one of the above would be enough to get the theme started.
  • Finally- layer your woods, rustic, oak, rosewood etc – feel a bit more eclectic than matchy matchy.

Is this an idea that you think has legs??

Styling Idea # 146 Romantic Bedroom Styling

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Hello, dear readers. I hope that you were treated to some Autumn rain like we were here in Sydney. It was simply wonderful. The kind of rain that falls on the window all night and all morning and makes you want to snuggle down and not go anywhere. I spent half my Sunday in bed with cups of tea, newspaper, laptop and crosswords (old school).

If I had the space to would love a sitting area in my room like this ….

  • This mini apartment come hotel room just looks perfect for lazy all day from bed to lounge to kitchen. I love the nonchalant romantic style.
  • If you want to re-create this drama think floor length mirror leaning against wall, chandeliers, replace the bedhead with a scattering of floral cushions, layer cream with white and pop with raspberry and YES!! hang a dress from a floor lamp! YES

This me in my not so amazing room. (Things I love – serving table (IKEA) good to tea and toast, low round art deco side table that holds books and magazines galore, extra weighty doona for scrunching and snuggling, tapestry cushions, my Canon, my plant that is still alive)

Styling Idea # 145 Mirrored Bar

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I went to a fabulous bar last night in Sydney. For the locals you will be well familiar with Sticky Bar. A hidden away bar above the ever popular Table for 20- seriously worth the visit. This is the type of bar that is hard to find (Melbourne style) dark and cosy (Melbourne style) cooking paella in the middle of the room for everyone to take a bowl full (Spanish style) and has some of the best service I have ever experienced anywhere (Impeccable style). PS don’t be put off by any entrance rules- ie last night I had to text message “Why Am I?” to a random number and wait to be welcomed! This is not pretentious rather a wonderful way to make sure you are personally greeted and escorted upstairs where you will be served by the best (and the best looking I must say!!)

Here is the link if you want to add it to your to do list- Sticky Bar.

  • I would encourage you all to install a home bar! Add mirrors, pendent lights and mosaic tiles for true chic- but keep the lighting low and the wine flowing!

Enjoy your weekend!!
