Styling Idea # 171 Painted Kitchen Island

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Oh yuck! Going back to work after 5 days off was not fun at all! Why do we have to work when long weekends are sooooo good! I am sure if we all rally together we could get more long weekends- no one would complain. Until, that is, the day we have to go back πŸ™‚

The other good thing about long weekends is you can do DIY jobs around the house- like paint your kitchen island a huge doll house!

  • If you have a blank section along the bath in the kids bedroom think about painting a similar scene.
  • Β Hang painted fabric on serving tables outside for an interesting styling ideas for home entertaining and weddings!

Styling Idea # 170 Booth Seat in Bathroom

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Wow, Wagga in Autumn is fantastic. The sun is shining, the colours are incredible and the wide streets are literally lined with fallen leaves. It is hard to come back to rainy Sydney when Wagga life seems so easy and accessible. What do you think people give up when they live the city and what sacrifices do those living the country make? What influence does your city or town have on your interior style?

I would be interested in your thoughts on this.

Well, I did spend plenty of time outdoors while I was home but I made sure that I did spend time soaking in a bubble bath with good book! Can recommend East of Eden by Steinbeck if you are interested!

  • I love the booth seat built into this luxury bathroom
  • Make sure you include storage space- underneath could even be the laundry baskets or linen press!
  • If you cannot get a built in booth seat like above including a chair in the bathroom is an elegant styling idea and a very practical addition! Imagine something like this…..

Styling Idea # 167 Old world shapes- New finish

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

One of my favourite ways to create an impact with style is to surprise. Something that is not expected- an update on a classic a twist on a shape and mix it together with incredible flair.

  • OK- look for old shapes in lounges, chairs and bedheads- cover with a plain fabric where there would have been prints and floral.
  • Look for clean lines in furniture and mix with ornate lamps, lace, dollies.
  • Mix together on a palette that is fresh and unique- don’t be tempted to add too many colours- just use classics in a new way.
  • Voila!

Styling Idea # 166 – Leather Dining Chairs

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Good morning! Every time I visit Melbourne I wonder- why don’t I live there! Imagine owning one of the attached terraces! I am so in love with them.

This row I found online is from a street right around the corner from my sisters.

And inside I would do this

  • Using a heavy chair in this setting needs to be balanced with lighter elements- a floral rug, a chandelier, white walls, roses and lots of natural light.
  • Use another area of the room to repeat the leather- the chaise in the room is perfect as it keeps the leather feel and creates an activity zone out of dead space.
  • Don’t feel you need to use the leather chairs at either end of the table if you want to avoid a closed in feel- here the leather is left off the ends and allows to room to remain open.
  • I particularly love the serving hole in the wall- perfect for passing food direct from the kitchen!

Styling Idea # 165

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I’m off to Melbourne this weekend for a wedding!! Yay! I love seeing people I love in love.

The best thing about getting married is buying a house- I want a spiral staircase please (I know, I missing the point about the whole wedding and love thing but I think I am capable of loving a staircase)

Styling Idea # 163 Upholstered Queen Anne Bedheads

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Oh my gosh – I have slept in! This is rare occurrence and what is even more unusual is that my alarm work me….I pride myself on being able to wake up just before the alarm so I never have the jolt of beep beep beep! However, this morning I was dreaming “I don’t want to wake up…I’m too tired!” and sure enough then came the dreaded noise. I now feel like I have a brick necklace on and really want to lay down my head!

Either of these will do!

  • I love the use of a modern fabrics to update this classic, timeless bedhead style!
  • Choose all one colour to give the room a pop- try texture too like this gorgeous satin look.
  • The wonderful thing about a strong bold stripe is it adds a mascualine touch – which is always important yet sometimes hard to achieve in a couples room.
  • Notice the brilliant use of layers of patterns in the first image, the wallpaper, the bedhead, the bed linen, the cushions and the throw- this is how to do winter layered beds!! Snuggle up!

What colours do you think are best for winter beds??
