Styling Idea # 286 Matching Cushion and Tablecloth

Yippeeee! The long weekend is here and I am off to Wagga to see family and friends and enjoy 4 nights of mum’s cooking! Given that last night was eggs on toast and the two nights before packet soup my belly is in for a treat. It has been such a busy week but I am pleased because I am feeling quite accomplished as a result and ready to go home and put my feet up!

Meanwhile – I am not so happy that Hawthorn are not playing the final this weekend but excited about the GF all the same.

Now as we have three days to enjoy this weekend do something a little luxurious but totally simple- cook scones! My recipe is flour and cream – THAT’s it!! Seriously – that is all you need. Sit back and enjoy with a tablecloth and cushion THAT MATCH! sweet

Be safe this weekend and enjoy a break xxxx

Styling Idea # 283 Oversized Tufted Ottoman

I simply love this room (also I am in a rush so you will have just enjoy gazing at the beauty!)- but with windows and lights like this I think any old ottoman would work. But don’t you agree that the over sized mustard version is super! PS I would loose the random yellow vases!

Styling Idea # 282 White furniture/white accessories

Sometimes after a busy weekend you just want to enjoy the serenity and silence of white. Pure, crisp simple and never load.

Layer white furniture with an all white canvas….add mirror for sparkle and flowers for personality. Serve simply and keep clean.

Styling Idea # 281 Oversized Plant as Bedside Prop

Today is getting up to 27 degrees here in Sydney- not a good office day! I declare this an excellent day to skip work and play in the sun!

Or you could lay around in a room this damn cool! I love everything about this room- neutral palette with loads of texture, minimal pattern to hurt tired eyes, painting placed oh so casually on the bedhead, rustic wooden side table and OVER SIZED tree beside bed.

A place to sleep in ….everyday

Styling Idea # 280 Sputnik Light

Just so you know this is how I am feeling about life today…..

Thank you to the universe that delivers the people, the insight and support just when you think there is nothing left.

On a less serious topic I feel I have been negligent to get this far in the post history and not share with you my love for the Sputnik Light. I did mention it way back at idea # 30 but it gets it own plug don’t you think? So beautiful and so important to look and feel of the room it gets to call home.

Styling Idea # 279 Artists Impression

I really want to start painting again. When I am not being creative enough I feel like a zombie, so I am aiming this weekend to start some new paintings. That in mind I saw some incredible paintings by Craig Waddell when I was at Biota in Bowral in the weekend. Both the artist and the amazing new organic restaurant are highly recommended!

This little number will set you back $27,000- check out Gallery 9 in Sydney if you are in the market

Not to leave you without an at home styling idea I found these images on the The Design Files – whilst the photography is not the inspirational style I usually share on this blog the idea is succinct and something I love.

  • I love how the use of blonde wood, white edges and black frames create the ultimate neutral palette for displaying these images.
  • Don’t be afraid to mix frame styles just ensure that they are lined up perfectly so the story is continued.
  • Look for illustrations, etching or small black and white images to highlight the simple colour palette
  • If you have old family photos in black and white and want to display them without them looking daggy try something like this.
  • Ensure there is plenty of white space in the border and the frame width is kept reasonably consistent if not the same – but of course you can vary frame sizes.

Styling Idea # 278 Rich Tuesday- Butter Living Rooms

The ironic thing about recording and cataloging is that you can only capture a moment in time. All of the images I record here and the ideas I painstakingly select to share will one day be out of date. So 2000’s or so 2011! I can imagine a blog like this gushing over the latest dried flowers in the 80’s so somewhere along the line this will be a 4 year project that people snigger at and say “How did we ever like that?”

With that in mind some looks are timeless and some styles will remain beautiful. I predict the majority of the images I use in the Rich Tuesday segment will fit this bill. That suits me because I will be rich and I can return to the blog to pick ideas that I loved.

I will wrapping my living rooms in warm buttery yellow.

Styling Idea # 277 Paint the inside of your bookcase

I think it is always exciting when I find new ways to add colour. You see the balance of a few shades is all about what makes a room work. However, often it is hard to add colour in new ways. Here in a room of cream and beige and butter the stark black chairs are supported by the back of the bookcase! Incredible!

Just think…if you are renting you couldn’t paint the wall to get this strong block of colour but you can paint the inside of your bookcase and style it with enough space for the color to show through.

I think dark colours would work best chocolates, black, navy, green, mustard or raspberry!! But don’t forget soft mint for a bathroom cabinet (with rolled up towels and Jo Malone candles on display) or bright pink for a girls bedroom.

I don’t think I can over estimate how excited I am about this idea- I cannot wait to try it out!
