Styling Idea # 305 Magenta and 70’s

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Oh, I am drooling over this handbag and that is not a statement I say often. The casual shape and distinct lack of hardware is a welcome relief from the heavy metal of past years. It is soft and slouchy with an 70’s inspired kick but honestly the touch in real life is amazing and the colour is outstanding!

Mulberry Postmans Lock

The amazing pop of a magenta in these cushions below make this fabric a stand out but you must mix it with white and clean lines to allow the pop to show through and make sure it’s not too 70’s inspired! I am loving for a Monday.

Styling Idea # 304 Grey Sorbet

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I felt like I hadn’t done post on palettes for a while- one of my favourite topics to post on. Too many colour combos out there to swoon over not to share. I have called this Grey Sorbet….what do you say??

Styling Idea # 303 Wallpapered Ceiling

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Because I am in the business of sharing styling ideas I am going to post this….however I have my reservations about the execution. In my minds eye the table and chairs are perfect, wallpaper choice perfect, lighting (someone remind me who designed these again?) perfect, Fornasetti wall plates perfect. Here is how I would do it differently. JUST WALLPAPER THE CEILING. Not the wall………your thoughts?

  • Ok, so here is what I am thinking- boxes (all the same finish as above, different sizes if possible) a roll of white based pretty Xmas paper (nothing tacky here people) and a stack held together for a modern Xmas tree. Some boxes have decorations and lights and others pretty wrapped gifts. Cover inside back of boxes with paper if possible for a streamlined all white inspired stack.

  • Bring back the bulldog clip for kids play room boxes and stack up for a fun toys storage solution.

Styling Idea # 301 Floral Bedlinen

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Maybe it is because spring is in the air but I am finding this bedlinen simply stunning. As a rule I don’t like 99.999% of doona covers and bedlinen ugly. Yep- I honestly believe we are all putting up with the best of a bad lot and when you get home with new linen you make all sorts of compromises and excuses to allow for something that is not perfect. In most cases it is ugly and you wouldn’t buy the fabric in a dress or a cushion so why would you sleep in it?

There you are- there is my rant. Here are my pictures!

A touch of happiness

  • Look for prints on white to keep it fresh
  • Mix up geometric and florals for a fresh take
  • Keep almost everything else white!

Styling Idea # 300 Daisy’s

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Weekends should be made of flowers, food and friends. Have you considered daisy’s lately? If not, I would recommend it!

Be sure to buy two bunches -the vase should be brimming! Here on the ones on my dining table at the moment.

The trick will be to pull them out as they die – I am sure they will look more like this in a week!

Styling Idea # 299 Empty Space Picture

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I wonder if you read my tip yesterday and if it resonated with you? Some of these styling ideas are immediately apparent and just stunning to look at – others take a bit more time to digest and need an intuitive mind to process. As you are reading this I hope you appreciate both approaches and get something out of both styles of post. Here is another post similar to yesterdays and relating the more “no styled” approach to styling.

The “do not hang picture here” picture….

  • I’m always a little bit sad when people shut down a styling idea because it is against the rules- this space is crying out for a picture to be hang in the empty space but it is the EMPTY SPACE that makes this so stylish and powerful.
  • If you meditate you will know what I mean about hearing the silence behind sounds and feeling the space in nothingness…if I have lost you here, sorry!!
  • Try to look at this image and feel the simple balance achieved by deciding to keep that space open, to reflect the light, to dictate the colour and to allow the strength of the arrangement below to shine through.
  • This plays right into Coco’s famous quote “Always take one thing off”….in interiors you can be bold!!

Your challenge this weekend- remove something from an overly styled space!!!

Styling Idea # 298 Snake Charmer Basket- Bathrooms

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Sometimes the best styling comes from having the confidence to pick something and than leave it alone. Let the design, theme, colour and texture simply be and allow the vibe of the space take over. If one item speaks to you and creates the feeling that you want try this styling idea- repeat that item. Alone. Keep it that simple and you will rewarded with loads of style in a casual restrained manner.

Try it and see what I mean

  • Think about objects that you would normally group in threes or have as stand alone and try with two- examples include ceramics, photo frames, footstools, rose bowls, decorative jars, throw rugs.
  • Think about the simple power of 2 in surprising ways- 2 x side tables each with a different table cloth or both with a vintage lace throw in a hall….unexpected but when there is nothing else around to compete it will have twice the impact.
  • Use a backdrop that is neutral and if you feel the need for support pieces feel comfortable matching them to the theme- the black wrought iron hooks above are better than shiny silver in this case.

Styling Idea # 297 Two Mini Foot Stools

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Need something to balance out your space but don’t want or need the height of an extra sofa or armchairs? Think about two mini foot stools- you can formal or casual – either way they are practical seating options and just too cute!

Styling Idea # 296 Occassional Tables

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Oh, Monday- are you off to work? Sorry to rub it in but I’m still enjoying my weekend! Will hopefully share some shots of the wedding during the week but for now let’s be inspired by the simplicity of hexagon occassional tables. Perfect as side tables in a living room, bedroom or as simple hallway displays such as this!! I know this one is round but work with me people!
