Styling Idea # 337 Clear Console OVER Table

It is now 9:30pm and I am drafting what will be officially my latest post. Let me tell what I learnt today….

  1. The value of “everything has a place and there is a place for everything” is my idea of heaven and the perfect antidote to cleaning
  2. Cleaning is a full time job x 2
  3. If you give yourself a deadline or “time splits” for each room you will be able to clean for hours
  4. Music is your friend and everything is a microphone when you have a tea towel over your shoulder!!
  5. The best part about cleaning is a glass of wine with friends at the end of the day!

Ok..something pretty to look at for everyone who has missed a day…how  about a clear console over your retro inspired or unique shaped cabinet? I love this idea of layering images, tables and ghost-created heights!!!

Try this over girly dressing tables, retro drink trays, the end of a “space squeezed” dining table (push the table to the wall and create your own condiments tray with drinking glasses and flowers to boot), over a towel rack in the bathroom to create a clean space for a mirror and knacks….any other ideas people??

Styling Idea # 336 Fabric Coloured Cupboards

Well, I thought I best pull myself away from the cricket for just a moment and post on this glorious summer day! Please dry warm weather follow me back to Sydney. I hope your holidays are joyful joyful joy!!

I must say it is post Christmas “giving” and “eating” that storage becomes a hot topic- where to put EVERYTHING!!! Don’t forget the ease and beauty of a printed fabric draped over any open cupboard…kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, garage, laundry or pool side! Hide jumbo cane baskets behind or clever storage draws and cover up with style.

Styling Idea # 335 Colour Table- White Chairs

Cabin Fever! It really does exist and it has just occurred to me that I could never win Big Brother (not that I would want to) because I could never stay in the same house with the same people for that long. Please, don’t get me wrong….love the family and friends but it is hard when as a culture we have fostered and fought for so much independence. We create our rooms, our spaces, our bathrooms and our rituals- we have little need to share and pitch in. Perhaps it is a sad realization that our world is contained in a selfish bubble- and it is not always a bubble we want to burst.

Anyway! How about we all paint an old table these holidays- pick something bright and audacious and add simply white bentwoods!

Styling Idea # 334 Grey and Latte Palette

Wow, it seems I missed a milestone on this blog- my 1/3 point. 333 x 3 is going to see this almost finished. I also missed a couple of days in the food and alcohol frenzy that is Christmas- wow- what a few days.

I hope you had an amazing and joyful Christmas- we had some wonderful family surprises, some struggling family moments and three days all in all of Christmas cheer. It can be such an overwhelming and underwhelming experience and it is hard to not get caught up in the wrong parts. I think my goal for future Christmas’s will be to focus on what really matters and forget about the little things that don’t.

If you need to get some quiet time over the coming days escaping to a bedroom of soothing colours will do the trick- I love this grey and latte palette for a timeless cocooning space.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Styling Idea # 332 Christmas Door Frame

Wow- Christmas is well and truly here. Lugging around an arm full of bags and parading bright red shellac nails I felt suitably festive yesterday! Now the rush to wrap it all up and get back to Wagga! What will I wear?? I feel like I really need new summer clothes as I have avoided the shops in rainy Sydney- but Wagga is 33 degrees!

If you have family and friends away on the day make a makeshift door frames with photos of loved ones, family who live away, Christmas cards and shots from the day- that way you can have everyone’s smiling faces around for Christmas- even if they cannot all join you in person.

Styling Idea # 330 Woolen Stool

I am pleased to report that my flat mate and I managed to pull of a suitably sophisticated and adult style canapes party on the weekend. Whilst generally I am a cabanossi and cheese cubes kind of entertainer my flat mate pushed us to the limit to deliver everything from home made sausage rolls and bruschetta to lemon rings with Bocconcini, basil and anchovies and balini from a Gourmet Traveller recipe. Phew. I was also treated in return to a splendid party complete with jazz band right inside the inner city apartment. Yes….it seems I have graduated to the grown up parties. And what a joy.

I wonder if being grown up will also mean a return to lovely old fashion pastimes such as knitting (which i can do) and crochet (need idea how!)- but loving these adorable stools. Soon to be available here in Australia via I met these girls at the PYD markets and they are just starting out- please email them for more details if you are interested.

Styling Idea # 329 Xmas Tree from Pattie Cake Cases

If you are having a Christmas party this weekend and looking for a super cheap and fast way to look festive try this for size! This kind of styling should ordinarily be kept in the primary school classroom but for some fun crazy reason I love the simplicity! Colour would be fun but white is so clean and classy. Make sure you buy white blue tac to keep it clean!

Will be playing around with this before hosting on Saturday night. Enjoy the last weekend before the Xmas break!

Styling Idea # 328 Door Bookcase

Oh, wow. I am a sucker for bookcases and decorative plaster work. Imagine my delight when I found it wrapped up in Tiffany blue……..welcome to the entrance to my future kitchen, living room, office or library. Or, maybe this is the door to the guest bathroom- inviting them to select something to read before entering the heavenly space.

It is all a little bit too perfect really!
