FURNNISH Blog Today: Styling Idea # 389 Ginger Jar Vase

I’m having a love affair with ginger jars at the moment. The cute little ones that I found out the markets are about to be turned into vases this weekend and they don’t even know it! So smart and fresh when flrowers are normally seen in glass. Do it!

FURNNISH Blog Today Styling Idea # 385 Copper as Vase

I was sprouting the virtues of gold on this blog not a week ago and now here I am onto copper already. I am still happy to love gold but how stunning is this table setting with copper cans? Tom Dixon may have started the love affair with the pendent lights but I think we can all agree we are likely to see more of this delicious metal.

I could see this being huge for weddings!

I hope you are enjoying the long weekend if you are reading from Victoria! Everywhere else….Happy Monday.

Styling Idea # 351 Black Feature Wall (with windows)

I am over feature walls. And yet there is still a place for them. I would argue that they are allowed in the following spaces 1) small areas like bathrooms for impact 2) following on from this theme I would add alcoves to create dimension 3) in the wall that is the source of light.

Here the wall is broken up and the colour is still able to create a dramatic pop for the bright primary colours in the space. Of course super cool furniture, lighting, artwork and flora also helps!

Enjoy the weekend people!

Styling Idea # 306 Rose Bowl

Welcome to Melbourne Cup day aussies! How wonderful. Too bad I am feeling unwell and will be staying at home and not frocking up for the day.

Sorry for the short post but I am heading back to bed!

I am still flower obsessed and if you don’t own a rose bowl yet hurry up!

Tip for getting them right– you will need about 50% more roses than you think- 24 is good, 10 is too small. Stand all roses up and straight and then twist to create a cone with the stems. Use this cone to support additional roses that you may wish to insert around the top to fill it up.

Styling Idea # 300 Daisy’s

Weekends should be made of flowers, food and friends. Have you considered daisy’s lately? If not, I would recommend it!

Be sure to buy two bunches -the vase should be brimming! Here on the ones on my dining table at the moment.

The trick will be to pull them out as they die – I am sure they will look more like this in a week!

Styling Idea # 278 Rich Tuesday- Butter Living Rooms

The ironic thing about recording and cataloging is that you can only capture a moment in time. All of the images I record here and the ideas I painstakingly select to share will one day be out of date. So 2000’s or so 2011! I can imagine a blog like this gushing over the latest dried flowers in the 80’s so somewhere along the line this will be a 4 year project that people snigger at and say “How did we ever like that?”

With that in mind some looks are timeless and some styles will remain beautiful. I predict the majority of the images I use in the Rich Tuesday segment will fit this bill. That suits me because I will be rich and I can return to the blog to pick ideas that I loved.

I will wrapping my living rooms in warm buttery yellow.

Styling Idea # 240 Milk Jars and Flowers

Being in Melbourne you are never too far from quirky ideas, cafes with style and personal touches. It is such a cliche but one I am happy to revel in and enjoy when I visit my favourite city. Enjoying breakfast in a cute little cafe yesterday I spotted this nifty idea – great for making one bunch of flowers look like so much more! I might do this one in the kitchen at home.

Have a great weekend and if you get out and about in the sunshine think about hunting down a milk jars and some flowers for your world!

Styling Idea # 222 Small Vases of Flowers

I started a photography course last tonight! yeah!

Of all the things that contribute to incredible images for this blog and others we have photography to thank. We would never have the eye candy to drool over if amazing and talented people behind the lens did not painstakingly capture the images. The images have the power to stop us in our tracks, change our whole apartment or stay with us forever as a new way of looking at our ideal interiors. Don’t get me wrong styling and architecture are incredibly important- however a simple moment captured in time is the essence of incredible interior photography.

Photography makes you want to live your life differently, it makes you feel happy and inspired about the world around you.  But I what I really love is an amazing image can make you feel calm, reassured and at home- even in a place you have never visited.

  • Don’t feel you need to spend a fortune on large bunches or that they all need to stay together- break up your flowers in to cute arrangements in unique places.
  • Use a mismatch of vases to create name tags at a brunch or leave love notes to family and friends.
