FURNNISH Blog Today: Styling Idea # 389 Ginger Jar Vase

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I’m having a love affair with ginger jars at the moment. The cute little ones that I found out the markets are about to be turned into vases this weekend and they don’t even know it! So smart and fresh when flrowers are normally seen in glass. Do it!

Styling Idea # 369 Pink Doors

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Will I get into trouble for posting two pink things in a week?

Readers will know that is NOT my style in fact I rarely dabble in the lolly shade because it often falls short of being sophisticated and ends up looking try hard. However these images prove me wrong and get me a little inspired so I thought I would share. Although the painted bookcase idea (Idea # 368) could be any colour this post is all about PINK DOORS…..please let me know what you think? Are we looking at a replacement for the coveted red door?

Styling Idea # 368 Colored Bookcases

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

If I had to fit all of these styling ideas into one house could you imagine the chaos! And the beauty?

Some ideas are totally impossible and larger than life, others (my goal is for the majority to fall into this others category) are for simple and clever ideas that you really use.

Maybe….. colored bookcases. Try them horizontal and near empty or vertical and stacked. Pick a colour that is no where else in the room or find something subtle from artwork, rugs or cushions to play up the repeat factor. Have fun with this one.

Styling Idea # 304 Grey Sorbet

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I felt like I hadn’t done post on palettes for a while- one of my favourite topics to post on. Too many colour combos out there to swoon over not to share. I have called this Grey Sorbet….what do you say??

Styling Idea # 228 Pink Doors

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Arrhhh- I am writing this at work as I will not have my computer at home tomorrow (today for you now)

Hopefully by the time you read this I will hopefully have a gym membership and will look super slim and toned already (12 hours later is not too much to ask I say!) That is why these things are expensive isn’t it!

Styling Idea # 157 Pink and Orange

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Yeah- I thought this colour scheme was tacky too- until I saw this photo. What a great idea for a little girls room- fresh and pretty.

  • The key here is to stay clear of primary colours- don’t use primary basic orange or pink instead stick with mustard base tones, soft fairy floss, raspberry and softly softly blend.
  • Use stripes and checks but be careful of too much floral
  • Be inspired by nature and mix a little green where you can!

Styling Idea # 103 Coloured Chairs

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I made the comment that the colours I wanted to see more of in 2011 were evergreen, pink, mustard, reds and oranges. I also said that I think black & white will (should) still continue high on our lust list. So how would you go about injecting one of these happy go lucky colours into your world? I plan on showing you some little ways.

  • A brilliant quick and fresh way to add colour is one single chair
  • The beauty of this idea is that if you cannot afford a fairy floss pink Series 7 chair for real you can paint anything any colour you want! Find a chair that you like the shape of at ANY SECOND HAND STORE! Don’t look for ones that need upholstery we need to be able to paint. If the chair is wood you can strip it back, if it is veneer you can prime it and cover.
  • Use the paint colour you have painted your new chair to add colour somewhere else. Think of an interesting place that is not too obvious -skirting boards, inside cupboards, window sill, storage box!
  • Dont limit yourself to the colours I have suggested add colour in anyway with this idea.
  • Top off with a clashing cushion or bright wallpaper behind and you have a very smart styling feature.
  • Try this in the nursery with little children size chairs- cute!
  • This idea would work in the bathroom, the kitchen, the hall, the entrance, the spare room, the dining room, the balcony….i could go on!

Styling Idea # 102 Ensuite Doors

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Has anyone seen Burlesque? Let me tell you firstly, that I am a card carrying member of the “I Hate Musicals Club”. Worst offenders, according to our club are The Sound of Music & Moulin Rouge. I could vomit. I have a huge issue with people signing a line when they should really be talking. And I cannot stand signing whilst kicking, whilst twirling an umbrella, whilst kissing the leading man, whilst being suspended above a live audience. SHUT UP!!!

So, it may come as a surprise to learn that I simply loved this movie. It has everything to do with the talent of Christina Aguilera and the incredible looks of Cam Gigadet (Totally 1990s boy band- I’m sorry, can we still be friends?)

Anyway- we all should be creating en suites with doors like this as a result.

TRANSLATION: TRY THIS AT HOME

  • If you are updating to a new en suite this year dont forget about the doors. They need not be a standard boring door- glass doors, paneling, beveled glass or smokey mirrors.
  • Search op shops or junk yards and see if you can find the perfect parir. If you do not have the space for 2 one outstanding door on its own will create an entrance.
  • Claw bath optional but recommended.
  • PS- I just noticed the candle sticks in the image (re: yesterdays 2011 predictions- really had not seen these before!!)

Styling Idea # 79 Pink, Yellow and Leather

INSPIRATON FOR THIS POST

Okay, I think palettes is shaping up to be one of my favourite things to post about- I just need to work out how to get some dots or something on the page that show you what colours to pull out- but you are a pretty smart bunch. Let me break this one down. PINK. YELLOW. WHITE. BROWN- who would have ever known it could look so good!

Interior Decline

  • I could have easily called this idea part painted walls because I think they way they have left the white with the stripe in yellow and the pink bit is incredible! Can you tell I am excited by my inability to punctuate that sentence?
  • PS (I am thinking all sorts of 70’s male polo shirt combos can be painted onto walls with sections left unpainted- amazing!)
  • Is a warning about this idea- I don’t think the combo would work so well without the 70’s inspired stripe- ie pink cushions on this couch would just look wrong. If you are not up for painting the wall like this try painting the coffee table and pair with yellow flowers.
  • This would work in a bedroom with a leather bedhead, pink linen and yellow accents.

I have never seen this combo together before- have you? I would love to know your thoughts on this??

Styling Idea # 52 Wedding Thoughts….

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I spoke to the lovely bride yesterday afternoon before she left for Italy (insert sigh).

I wanted to check I could post about her wonderful and creative wedding ideas. Luckily for everyone the answer was “yes, of course!”. This wedding was about clever executions that looked natural and effortless but constantly had guests saying “ooohhh look at that!”

Both the bride and groom are incredible designers so they understand beauty and simplicity- the perfect ingredients for a wedding.

  • I don’t want to give away all the ideas and personal touches but this a sneak preview of how natures gardens, candles, lavender, personal mementos, wooden shutters and pink paint can deliver the most beautiful wedding of all.

I am so blessed that I can share these with you- if you would like to thank Mr and Mrs R leave a little comment- I am sure they would like to hear your thoughts and appreciation.
