Styling Idea # 397 Storage Wall

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

The wonderful Apartment Therapy has is launching the Small Cool Contest again. If you are not familiar with the concept they invite submissions from different size categories (Teeny Tiny, Tiny, Little, Small and International) and readers vote on the best use of space. Such a brilliant concept and the rooms and ideas never cease to amaze. I will be most likley following the voting and sharing some clever cat ideas as they come through.

I am especially impressed with the calming effect of this lovely curtain covered storage unit. Space to boot and minimalist lines when it is all closed up. Wonderlust!

Do we have any Australians keen to enter this year?? Please let me know if so…..I will be sure to vote!

FURNNISH Blog Today Styling Idea # 385 Copper as Vase

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I was sprouting the virtues of gold on this blog not a week ago and now here I am onto copper already. I am still happy to love gold but how stunning is this table setting with copper cans? Tom Dixon may have started the love affair with the pendent lights but I think we can all agree we are likely to see more of this delicious metal.

I could see this being huge for weddings!

I hope you are enjoying the long weekend if you are reading from Victoria! Everywhere else….Happy Monday.

Styling Idea # 377 Folded Back Doona

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Today I am packing up the car and moving. Again.

I left Sydney 3.5 weeks ago and now I am finally on route to My Melbourne! Minus some much loved furniture pieces that don’t fit in a Hyundai Getz but with the important lamps, plants and cushions to make a room mine!

However on arrival it won’t quite look like this! I love the idea of taking a large bold print and folding it back at the end of the of the bed. Don’t get me wrong I adore a white donna as much as the next girl but sometimes a print or colour injection can make a room feel luxurious. Keep your whites for pillows, linens and coverlet and have fun with a strong print at the end only. Of course, repeat with at least one cushion for harmony.

Styling Idea # 376 Style Up the Mattress!

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I missed a day yesterday.

A total DNP (Did Not Post). Sorry. And as for today, I am totally exhausted, fighting the flu and succumbing to the lolling sound of the rain……..zzzzzz.

Anyway….welcome back and thanks for your patience. I found this little gem and thought “Arhh Haa! How clever!” Hope it makes up for it.

What to do when you have a spare room that needs a little something? A space that people could sleep if needed, a space that looks as smart as the rest of your stylish home, a space that says “Hey, don’t use me as a junk room…I demand respect!” I say you style up a mattress!

  • I personally adore the smart, clean lines of the long skinny cushions!
  • However if you are feeling suitably boho and lo-lo (to the ground) adding some Moroccan, Tibetan or Spanish flavored cushions would be spicy and delicious.
  • Yes, add the rug, yes, create a makeshift side table for glasses of water, magazines and a guest soap
  • Yes, hang the wall prints above at a height that works with the low proportions. Anyone caught hanging too high will be disappointed.
  • DO use a thick, quality fitted white sheet (or two) that is not going to show through any nana flowers prints underneath (You may also wish to consider other suitable colours such as grey, linen or navy)
  • If you have a bed and base (mattress with a base support) you could remove the wheels and create a similar look.
  • DON’T ignore this special space when visitors are away – day beds are a fabulous retreat.
  • PS- don’t you just love the way these prints are hung?????

Styling Idea # 374 B&W Architectural Highlights + Awards

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST (make sure you read to the bottom today)

I am in love with the idea of Black and White being used to highlight natural architectural features. White is perfect but the splash of black takes these already stunning spaces to another level. When sophistication meets simplicity the result is irresistible. Do we agree? Think skirting, window frames, cornices, panels, doors…..

Styling Idea # 360 Black and White Spines

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Well, I am pleased to say the packing was less stressful than I had anticipated and I managed to break it up with a long lunch with friends and delicious dinner at Orto Trading Co. If you must work you must dine I say!

So, after moving you may imagine that I would bemoan the purchase or any more books…ever! However, this is too smart and stylish to pass up. Of course we have seen colour coded before but the smart placement and the simple lines make this even better!

Styling Idea # 359 Box Pleat Valance

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

First day unemployed!

Sleep in, check. Bacon and egg roll, check. Rainy weather for packing, check. Old daggy music to keep me dancing, check. More books and magazines than you could ever carry, check. Motivation to actually start packing= zero. Arrrhhh moving is the pits!

Kinda wish I was more of a minimalist right now. But it is the special touches that make a space personal- I’m loving the idea of rocking the valance again. Where did they go??

  • I would love this idea from kitchen to sunroom, or like here from dining to living.
  • Think about this for internal hallways.
  • It would be amazing in a main bedroom to separate a bathroom or powder room.

Styling Idea # 349 Wardrobe Behind Bed

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Have I told you I am moving? Perhaps not, and I am sure you will hear plenty about it in the comings weeks! Look out Melbourne I am coming home- yeah.

The reason that this is relevant is my flat mate is looking at taking over the room I now have and she will need some storage (attic style bedroom without wardrobe = tricky). I have managed to create a dressing area complete with exposed clothes rack. Do you think you could live with your clothes on display like this?? It is an excellent way to use the space- maybe some soft draped fabric could hide the clothes?
