Styling Idea # 432 Arch Lead Light Windows

Good morning everyone! I’m back!

I decided that I needed a break from daily blog land, so I took two weeks off to refresh my mind. Out of a four year goal of blogging that ain’t so bad. The one thing I found by not posting, not reading, not collating images and not even pinning was that I absolutely love what I do and really cannot live without daily visual stimulation.

So much has been happening here since I wrote. But it is hard to pull out one story to be inspired by. I am just going to get started with a jaw dropping stunning room. Arch windows are really so impressive.

If you are anywhere near Melbourne at the moment stay warm today. I will be in a furniture warehouse hogging the little blow heater and sipping on a thermos.

Styling Idea # 431 Basket beside the bed…..

If you are looking for new ways to add colour with cushions in your bedroom but cannot handle too many on the bed invest in an open weave basket for stacking. Handy even if you want to pop them here at the end of the day! I like it.

Styling Idea # 414 Leather and Gold Bedroom

With all the white and neutral bedrooms that are around at the moment I am being a bit brainwashed. After a while they all start to look the same. Clean lines, white linen, no personality in some cases. I am still attracted to darker colours in a bedroom at time. I think in my real house I may have to have three master bedrooms – just so I can have a few styles to pick when I go to lay my head down. Clean for peaceful and meditation, brights for summer and breakfast in bed, dark and moody for late night reading and a glass of port! What is your favourite bedroom style??

Styling Idea # 403 Red Trim Linen

I had the most amazing planning and designing day yesterday, come midnight was still totally immersed in ideas and visions. Strange things happen at night and you either love the ideas when you wake up or you are left wondering if someone laced your tea with brandy? This morning I am in the former catergory! Yippppeeee- does anyone ever have this happen?

I am obessing over some red trimmed linen at the moment? In fact I am going to find out where we can all get some and come back to you!

Have a super Wednesday xx

FURNNISH Blog Today: Styling Idea # 392 Yellow Dress

I must admit that I do not own a yellow dress. Whenever I go clothes shopping I always look for three colours- red, emerald green and yellow, I must be a terrible shopper because I can never find them! If I was to own a yellow dress I would want a lovely day dress retro style but I also like the idea of something like this (Michael Kors) for layering with a cardy or leaving clean with statement necklace. (Better get my yoga arms on!)

At least until I get the yoga classes sorted it would look lovely hanging in a room.

FURNNISH Blog Today: Styling Idea # 384 – 2 Colour Bedroom

Happy Friday! I am just looking out the window at what appears to be a winter sky. March? Come on.

Anyway….you can easily imagine that winter is miles away with an image like this.

Repeat 2 x colours on a bed throw and a chair and keep the rest of the room white. Black and white, Green and white, lilac and white, yellow and white, linen and white, orange and white, grey and white….I’ll stop now. Have a great weekend.

FURNNISH Blog Today Styling Idea # 383 Graduating Prints

I’m in business business business mode at the moment. Chained to the desk (mostly in unflattering house clothes) and sourcing, designing, planning, plotting.

I have decided to record my business wishlist. That way I can look back with pride on what I have achieved when the systems are rolling. Also- all recommendations for any of the below would be really cherished and appreciated.

  • Textile designers
  • Fabric printers
  • Web designers (to design and build the online store)
  • WordPress experts- who can fix this blog- seriously need to upgrade already! HELP?
  • Advertisers for the blog (when it looks like it is worth it)
  • Furniture makers
  • Upholsters
  • Storage facilities (Melbourne)
  • Communal offices (Melbourne)
  • A million bucks
  • A bank Manager
  • A PR Manager
  • Photographers
  • Assistant Stylists
  • Twitter Expert
  • Freight account
  • And most importantly – HAPPY CUSTOMERS

Meanwhile, I do always enjoy seeing new ways to hang prints. Especially when they have the benefit of making a space look bigger. Why not be bold above a bed with no head board and aim high? Kinda like my business wishlist!

Styling Idea # 377 Folded Back Doona

Today I am packing up the car and moving. Again.

I left Sydney 3.5 weeks ago and now I am finally on route to My Melbourne! Minus some much loved furniture pieces that don’t fit in a Hyundai Getz but with the important lamps, plants and cushions to make a room mine!

However on arrival it won’t quite look like this! I love the idea of taking a large bold print and folding it back at the end of the of the bed. Don’t get me wrong I adore a white donna as much as the next girl but sometimes a print or colour injection can make a room feel luxurious. Keep your whites for pillows, linens and coverlet and have fun with a strong print at the end only. Of course, repeat with at least one cushion for harmony.

Styling Idea #372 Painted Mirrors- Muted Tones

I spent all day yesterday compiling a competitive review for my commercial finance application. The day was finished with a trip to my lawyer to discuss business company structures and personal liability! Phew…due diligence for business planning you could say!

Anyway…you could also say that I am a bit “paint” obsessed with Styling Ideas lately….bookcases, doors and now ….mirrors! How unoriginal of me! However, I do like simple things that make a big difference. In real life that is my styling mantra (in blogging life I often have more money, more resources and more space).

So, if you are achieving the old layered or repeating effect in a room (taking a colour and using it elsewhere in the space to connect elements) try a slick of paint around the mirror- love these muted colours. Reds, taupe, cinnamon, grey, lilac, burgundy….keep them warm.

  • I would love to see this anywhere the wall size will allow for the statement- entrance, outdoor entertaining, walk in robes, hallways!
  • I love the softer colours however don’t hesitate to use the idea with a bright! Even a pop of colour in a muted room would be delicious.
  • If you have a small stack of old mirrors paint all the frames the same colour and lean them together on the wall or on top of a cabinet.
  • Children’s room would benefit from primary colours that pop.

Styling Idea # 366 Black Four Poster Bed

Thank you to everyone who remembered my birthday yesterday- your messages and calls made me feel special all day!! I had the most perfect and relaxing day (many hours spent pinning if I am to be honest).

That is where I came across this delight- serious love factor here. Of course the ceiling, panels and windows in the first image means it could have a bed made of milk crates and look amazing however what about these beds?
