Styling Idea # 426 Rustic Stairs

Wonder where stairs like this lead?? Love a highly polished floor in large areas but if you just get a small chance to play with wood- why not make it rustic? What do you think?

Styling Idea # 425 Gallery Entrance

I have looked at ways artwork can be used to create an entrance before. Styling Idea # 210 was all about elaborate pictures and mirrors in a entrance and # 161 was artwork on the floor (in a way that a busy working artist would display- stacked and un-styled).

This image is how I would prefer it look. The over the top mirrors and prints would blow my mind, but not calm it as I enter my home. The stacked artwork would inspire me to be a more creative person, when I really need to be a more disciplined person. See where I am going here?

I simply adore photography!!! Love, love, love with a capital L and cannot wait to have a entrance of similar structure to display with love. The base is low so the prints are large! Have fun!

Styling Idea # 410 Painted Door Trim

No one can accuse me of not providing enough ways to get colour into your space. I have suggested painting the window frames, the door frames, the skirting boards and almost everything else! However, this is a new one. Finding colour on the edge of the door….what a surprise.

Kids rooms especially would look wonderful with a bright colour like this. Be bold…you can always paint over it. I love the use of a bright colour in a neutral space….think neon lemon with linens, bright blues with crisp white, orange with moody grey or mauve magenta with black and white.

Styling Idea # 374 B&W Architectural Highlights + Awards

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST (make sure you read to the bottom today)

I am in love with the idea of Black and White being used to highlight natural architectural features. White is perfect but the splash of black takes these already stunning spaces to another level. When sophistication meets simplicity the result is irresistible. Do we agree? Think skirting, window frames, cornices, panels, doors…..

Styling Idea # 369 Pink Doors

Will I get into trouble for posting two pink things in a week?

Readers will know that is NOT my style in fact I rarely dabble in the lolly shade because it often falls short of being sophisticated and ends up looking try hard. However these images prove me wrong and get me a little inspired so I thought I would share. Although the painted bookcase idea (Idea # 368) could be any colour this post is all about PINK DOORS…..please let me know what you think? Are we looking at a replacement for the coveted red door?

Styling Idea # 337 Clear Console OVER Table

It is now 9:30pm and I am drafting what will be officially my latest post. Let me tell what I learnt today….

  1. The value of “everything has a place and there is a place for everything” is my idea of heaven and the perfect antidote to cleaning
  2. Cleaning is a full time job x 2
  3. If you give yourself a deadline or “time splits” for each room you will be able to clean for hours
  4. Music is your friend and everything is a microphone when you have a tea towel over your shoulder!!
  5. The best part about cleaning is a glass of wine with friends at the end of the day!

Ok..something pretty to look at for everyone who has missed a day…how  about a clear console over your retro inspired or unique shaped cabinet? I love this idea of layering images, tables and ghost-created heights!!!

Try this over girly dressing tables, retro drink trays, the end of a “space squeezed” dining table (push the table to the wall and create your own condiments tray with drinking glasses and flowers to boot), over a towel rack in the bathroom to create a clean space for a mirror and knacks….any other ideas people??

Styling Idea # 329 Xmas Tree from Pattie Cake Cases

If you are having a Christmas party this weekend and looking for a super cheap and fast way to look festive try this for size! This kind of styling should ordinarily be kept in the primary school classroom but for some fun crazy reason I love the simplicity! Colour would be fun but white is so clean and classy. Make sure you buy white blue tac to keep it clean!

Will be playing around with this before hosting on Saturday night. Enjoy the last weekend before the Xmas break!

Styling Idea # 210 Velvet, Prints & Mirrors in Hallway- Oh My

I am not really writing this today- hopefully I am relaxing by the beach enjoying a long breakfast in Noosa when this arrives!

But to thank you for checking in here is something to remember…

Lonny Magazine

  • Sometimes if you go way out it can be totally worth it!
  • Take this for example- not need for restraint – more prints, more velvet (in green) and mirrors…it creates an incredible light reflecting texture paradise.
  • Remember, I have said this before your entrance is not the place in your house where you live so it can be a little OTT (or a lot) AND it is the place that sets the tone for the whole house- make it worth it. Say- WELCOME!
  • The key here is the mirrored console- a must to create the reflect aspect of this entrance and stop the closed in feeling that would ordinarily be generated by the high prints on the opposite wall.
  • A very clever styling execution indeed. Minimalist need not apply

Styling Idea # 194 Grey Brown and White

It is cold and foggy and dark in Sydney this morning- such a winter’s day.

This colour palette looks more appealing inside than out.

Black White and Yellow

Design Traveller

  • If you ever want to warm up a room with soft browns and taupe’s use whites and wood to bring it life. I have just painted a room for a client and we do not have the furniture for it yet. The challenge will be managing their expectations before we add furniture – it will look a bit bland until we contrast and pop the colours!
