Styling Idea # 413 Cabin Porn

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Somewhere around 7:30am this morning I sat down to write this post. In between keeping the fire going, thinking I had lost my flat mates cat (worst feeling ever! When kittens learn to climb you are in trouble), being inspired by a million furniture designers, appraising a girlfriends possible Danish eBay table (not Danish, not teak I say) hearing from a possible supplier in Scotland and reading Wallpaper I am now trying to get this out. You see….we had a public holiday in Australia yesterday so somehow this is a Thursday that feels like a Sunday. It is really hard to get your mind into gear. This time yesterday I was about to be treated to a gourmet lunch…my girlfriend cooked up 4 ducks for lunch. yum!

So, there are lots of things going on in camp FURNNISH at the moment (including a name change). However I will wait a bit longer to reveal the source of my inspiration, excitement, anticipation and perspiration!

In the mean time I am sure you need a pretty pic to get you through the afternoon. I found this site awe inspiring this morning! http://freecabinporn.com/ I am assuming the interior would be all a bit themed and stone-like but who cares when you can look at a view like this?

Styling Idea # 412 Angus and Celeste

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I visited the uber popular and very busy Finders Keepers markets on the weekend. Without offending my beautiful Melbourne town I sometimes tire of the popularity that the craft movement has in this town, 10 years ago it felt fresh now it feels repetitive. I must say that the beautiful hanging gardens from Angus and Celeste still made me smile. It looks fresh and beautiful. Check out their other beautiful products on their website too!

Styling Idea # 411 Mauve and Neutrals

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I am increasingly looking for new colours to inspire me in interiors. Soft pink, Hermes Orange and Mauve are fast joining my regular favorites.

I love the way this soft mauve pops against the stark black and white…what do you think?

Or the soft tone against the warmer neutral palette- creams and bronze.  Do you have a preference?

Styling Idea # 410 Painted Door Trim

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

No one can accuse me of not providing enough ways to get colour into your space. I have suggested painting the window frames, the door frames, the skirting boards and almost everything else! However, this is a new one. Finding colour on the edge of the door….what a surprise.

Kids rooms especially would look wonderful with a bright colour like this. Be bold…you can always paint over it. I love the use of a bright colour in a neutral space….think neon lemon with linens, bright blues with crisp white, orange with moody grey or mauve magenta with black and white.

Styling Idea # 409 A Touch of Orange

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Ever since I bought my new handbag in this awesome Hermes orange hue I have been looking for this colour in interiors. It’s a rust based orange that goes so well with everything! White, blue, green, pinks, woods, prints, gold and more. I think this is the start of a new obsession.

Have a great weekend everyone..

Styling Idea # 408 Kids Clothes as “Art”

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Is there anything cuter than kids clothes? The sheer size and mini-ness of these incrdible pieces never ceases to promote gushes of “ooohhh” and “arrhhhh”. The latest catch cry as kids clothes start to resemble the adult fashion piece is “I would wear that!”. Either way they are too cute to stay all folded up in draws (again, cute mini draws “ooohhh”).

I say hang them up – pick one or two that work with the colour palette and make them your art.

Styling Idea # 407 Skinny Floor Lamps

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Well, we have had the skinny jeans, skinny cap and skinny ties for a while now. But I am really impressed with the clean lines (and practicality to boot) of skinny floor lamps. A design statement in it self they also can be used to create mood and task lighting.

So smart they almost go unnoticed!

Styling Idea # 406 Autoban Love

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I spent the best part of the weekend (i.e the sunny Sunday part) under a pile of files and brochures and links looking for the perfect bed for my upcoming photoshoot.

It turns out that no matter how hard I try I have really expensive taste! There really is just no compromise on excellent design and you can spot it a mile off! I am currently lusting over this delicious Throne Bed from Autoban. Really, this is my idea of the perfect bed.

Autoban is an Istanbul Design studio that develops architecture and design projects. It was established in 2003 and has grown to a team of 35 that have already delivered over 300 projects- pretty impressive growth I say. Autoban’s Suite Bed was recently awarded Best Bed in the Wallpaper 2012 Design Awards- check it out here.

In fact the whole site is worth spending at least half your Monday procrastinating! If you get sprung for doing no work today just blame Autoban. Meanwhile, I’m off to Luke Furniture in Melbourne to demand that I can hire this for the photoshoot! If you’re in Sydney and keen to see the range you can pop into Spence and Lyda

Styling Idea # 405 Ercol Purchase (Excitement)

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I see a lot of furniture. A lot of lamps, chairs, sofas and tables. I used to work at Vampt Vintage surrounded by simply the best Scandinavian designs in the world and yet I had not encountered real life Ercol. Founded in 1920 in England this remarkable furniture house has produced quality craftsmanship for almost a century.

You may already be familiar with some of the originals that are back in production in a new colour palette?

Ercol Originals

I am pleased to say I am now the proud owner of a set of four Ercol dining chairs. My new purchase (how exciting) was a super find from Red Rider in St Kilda (thanks to Josh for the excellent service). The design I fell in love with is a little more retro dating from the 1960’s however they feel very shaker in their simple aesthetic would you agree? Whilst I am not sure these are collectable at the moment I do not intend to re-sell anytime soon so I don’t mind a bit. They are in original condition (Ercol stickers in tack) and have delicious retro fabric covers. The million dollar question is would I ever paint them???

Have a great weekend everyone! If you happen to find an Ercol love seat anywhere give me a call…..I think I might start a collection.
