Styling Idea # 418 Arch Windows

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I spent the weekend enjoying one of the most stunning holiday homes at Mt Martha I have ever stayed in. This is a big statement but it is totally true. Here are my tips for what worked:

Cream, white and wood interior, lots of mirrors and natural light, simple palette accessories (in this case it was soft aqua, silver and white, not one item outside the palette), exceptional quality everything (carpet to sleep on, couches to live on, tables to dream about) timeless pieces and a little Noosa styling. I know that Noosa has it’s fans and “not-so fans” however when you are on holiday these cheeky beach references are all the more endearing. Here is the link – however keep in mind these things always look better in real life.

So, my favourite thing in this house was the windows! The view came in second after the scale and size of these stunning windows. Straight with black frames are of course all the rage however I still like an old fashion arch. It can adapt to different styles…..take your pick.

FURNNISH Blog Today: Styling Idea # 388 Orange Check

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

As a born again Melbournian I have been spending a fair bit of time reading through The Design Files. It’s kinda like getting out and about and having a good shop without having to leave the comfort of your own home. (Although, cabin fever has set in and today I WILL be getting out and about to see these stores in the flesh). Anyway, I cam across these lovely images and wanted to this floor immediately.

Plantation coffee house was designed by Foolscap Studio in collaboration with Jennifer Lowe and Brooke Thorn. All the photos by Tracey Lee Hayes . For more photos and details of the project CLICK HERE.

Styling Idea # 374 B&W Architectural Highlights + Awards

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST (make sure you read to the bottom today)

I am in love with the idea of Black and White being used to highlight natural architectural features. White is perfect but the splash of black takes these already stunning spaces to another level. When sophistication meets simplicity the result is irresistible. Do we agree? Think skirting, window frames, cornices, panels, doors…..

Styling Idea # 367 Rich Tuesdays – A Moroccan Tour

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Ok, it is no real surprise that Sara Chamberlain (me) wants to be a) rich and b) the queen of Morocco. We have been through both of these concepts many times before on FURNNISH and you, dear reader are always sympathetic to my fantasies (although, it would have been nice for someone to point out that I was using up two wishes when in fact the Queen  of Morocco is probably rich anyway…..oh well).

So, here on my return to Rich Tuesday’s I will give you a quick tour around my palace. (I am just being silly, but isn’t that what blogs are for??)

PS Thanks for reading my peeps!

PPS If your images are not lining up I am sorry, can’t work that out….won’t need to worry too much when I am the Queen I guess…others around to help with such tasks.

Styling Idea #364 Fluro Feature Tiles

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

In keeping with the mutual tones of yesterday’s post I love this simple idea that allows you make a statement of an un-used fireplace. Simply tile the space in a bright single colour. Fluro yellow is a crowd pleaser.

However, in unrelated awesomeness, you should listen to this first – from Lianne La Havas

Fabulous sound and fabulous idea – and a FREE DOWNLOAD is available here

Styling Idea # 227 Cellar in the Floor

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

Mum sent me these images yesterday- she had actually ordered a cellar like this for her house when renovating however delivery from the UK (no one was offering this in oz) was expensive and would have held up the building. Shame shame shame!

Wouldn’t it be lovely

Styling Idea # 202 Cupboard Above Toilet

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I am moving! I am so excited to be gaining a courtyard, a front garden and gate, a dishwasher, a BATH, an attic style bedroom with ensuite and a dining table! Yeah! You are all invited over for dinner – seriously.

I had a dream last night that the ensuite was a pokey little old room (haven’t actually seen it) but found this so if it is small I hope it looks like this. Such a good use of space.

PS does anyone know good second hand furniture places in Sydney- all this amazing furniture people buy must be on sold somewhere! I love Home Furniture on Consignment– does anyone have any other ideas?

Styling Idea # 180 Rich Tuesday

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I think even when I am rich that the kitchen in the home should be warm and cosy- nothing too large and ostentasious- you don’t want it to look like it is a commercial space.

I think I would take inspiration from these three rooms to build to ultimate heart of my home!

Styling Idea # 145 Mirrored Bar

INSPIRATION FOR THIS POST

I went to a fabulous bar last night in Sydney. For the locals you will be well familiar with Sticky Bar. A hidden away bar above the ever popular Table for 20- seriously worth the visit. This is the type of bar that is hard to find (Melbourne style) dark and cosy (Melbourne style) cooking paella in the middle of the room for everyone to take a bowl full (Spanish style) and has some of the best service I have ever experienced anywhere (Impeccable style). PS don’t be put off by any entrance rules- ie last night I had to text message “Why Am I?” to a random number and wait to be welcomed! This is not pretentious rather a wonderful way to make sure you are personally greeted and escorted upstairs where you will be served by the best (and the best looking I must say!!)

Here is the link if you want to add it to your to do list- Sticky Bar.

TRANSLATION: TRY THIS AT HOME

  • I would encourage you all to install a home bar! Add mirrors, pendent lights and mosaic tiles for true chic- but keep the lighting low and the wine flowing!

Enjoy your weekend!!
